  HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES

Behavioral/Mental Health
MLI was first established in 1997, out of a response to a community need "to address the issues of need, accessibility and appropriateness of substance abuse treatment, intervention, and prevention services for ethnic and minority individuals and groups in Connecticut." Since our founding, the State Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) has funded MLI as to conduct multicultural and diversity related services that support DMHAS prevention and treatment services, programs and initiatives.

MLI fiscally co-sponsors the Project on Addictions Cultural Competency (PACCT) Training program, along with the DMHAS-Office of Multicultural Affairs.

MLI is a member of the Statewide Multicultural Advisory Council (MCAC), as well as Regions 2 and 4 MCACs and various workgroups.

The following services are available to behavioral and mental health professionals:

  • Multicultural Education and Training

  • Assistance for staff and agencies in meeting needs for credentialing or contact hours in areas such as Special Populations, Cultural Competency or Diversity.

  • Technical Assistance on assessing agency or staff needs, establishing a cultural competency committee or cultural competence planning.

  • Training on site and at MLI's offices

  • Project for Addictions Cultural Competency Training Program (PACCT) - a recruitment and training program funded through the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Click here for more information.

Most services are available at free or low cost to current, DMHAS-funded and state-operated mental health and/ or substance abuse agencies under DMHAS grant funding.

If you are a provider of other services, please contact us anytime for more information on services, fees and availability.
